Official Analysis

The claim that the election date has been shifted from 5 March to 21 March 2026 is not supported by current official documents. The Election Commission’s latest published schedule, as well as recent explainer articles, clearly state that voting for the House of Representatives will take place on 5 March 2026.

Some early international reporting and commentary mentioned different possible dates, including 21 March, when political negotiations were still fluid after the dissolution of the House in September 2025. However, those references were either provisional or subsequently superseded by the formal announcement and Gazette notification that set 5 March as election day.

Until now, there has been no new decision by the President, the government or the Election Commission reversing or amending that notification. In the absence of any updated legal instrument, posts suggesting that the election has been postponed to 21 March are false and risk confusing voters.
