Growth in voter numbers
According to the final roll published earlier, approximately 18.9 million citizens are eligible to vote in the upcoming House of Representatives election. This represents an increase of more than 900,000 voters compared with the last general election. The rise is driven mainly by new young voters who have turned 18 since 2022 and by improved registration coverage in some districts.
Expansion of polling infrastructure
The Election Commission has also expanded the polling network to accommodate the larger electorate. There are now more than 10,900 polling stations and over 23,000 polling centres nationwide, with modest increases over the previous cycle. Officials say the additions are concentrated in rapidly growing urban areas and in rural municipalities where voters previously had to walk long distances.
Implications for turnout and management
Election experts note that a larger and more geographically spread electorate can both strengthen representation and complicate logistics. Higher youth participation could significantly influence outcomes in competitive constituencies. At the same time, district election offices are under pressure to ensure enough trained staff, ballots, and secure transport for materials to and from every centre.
