Integrated Election Security Plan in operation
Building on preparatory work started late last year, the Election Commission and security agencies have put into operation an Integrated Election Security Plan for the March 5 polls. This includes joint command and communication centres, temporary police recruitment and layered deployment of security forces around sensitive polling locations.
The plan aims to prevent intimidation of voters and candidates, ensure safe movement of ballot materials and polling staff, and respond quickly to any attempt to disrupt voting or counting.
Cyber cells and monitoring software
Alongside physical security, a dedicated cyber cell structure is monitoring digital threats. Nepal Police has formed cyber units at the district level for the election period, supported by specialised tools to identify coordinated online harassment, hate speech and attempts to manipulate public opinion through fake engagement.
These units work closely with the Election Commission’s information integrity mechanisms. Officials stress that action must be proportionate and grounded in law so that legitimate political speech is protected while serious violations of the code of conduct are addressed.
